By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize has officially launched the Belize Climate Ready Campaign, a nine month national initiative aimed at helping Belizeans better understand climate change and what it means for their communities, livelihoods and future.
The campaign was launched on September 23 by the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and with support from EUROCLIMA.
Over the next nine months, the initiative will use videos, social media content, television and radio features, brochures, infographics and community outreach activities to explain climate issues in practical terms.
Among the topics being covered are the impacts of climate change on Belize, the country’s national climate commitments, the role of the Climate Change Department and the recently introduced framework governing climate change and carbon markets.
Belize’s climate legislation is intended to strengthen climate resilience and low emission development while providing a framework for carbon market initiatives.
EUROCLIMA, meanwhile, supports climate and environmental action across participating Caribbean countries, including Belize.
The campaign will also focus on what individuals, businesses, institutions and communities can do to help strengthen Belize’s climate resilience.
Organizers say the goal is to move climate information beyond technical reports and make it something ordinary Belizeans can understand and use.
