By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Anti-Narcotics Unit has recovered a substantial haul of suspected cannabis, totalling some 57 pounds, found concealed in the Orange Walk District, though no one was arrested.
According to the Belize Police Department, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m., a team from the Anti-Narcotics Unit acted on intelligence about drugs being hidden in Carmelita Village. Officers visited a bushy area along an unmade street, where they discovered three white plastic bags containing bales.
An inspection revealed that the bales held a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis. One of the bales had been tampered with and was found to contain cardboard boxes holding several vacuum-sealed bags of a finely ground substance, also suspected to be cannabis.
With no one in the immediate area, the suspected drugs were retrieved as found property. The items were photographed and processed by a scene of crime technician before being taken to the Anti-Narcotics Unit base.
At the base, the bales were weighed, coming to a combined total of 57 pounds of suspected cannabis. Samples were taken and sealed for laboratory testing, and the drugs were deposited as found property.
No one has been arrested or charged in connection with the discovery, and the matter remains under police attention.
