During an appearance on Open Your Eyes on May 27, 2026, Prime Minister John Briceno said that Government vehicles are on weekend lockdown to cut fuel costs.
The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB)’s April report noted that fuel, food and electricity costs continue to rise.
And many Belizeans are finding ways to cut spending including lessening their runs to cut fuel costs.
“We have out in trackers on most of our vehicles in Government and over the weekend it is lockdown so they can’t use it. So we are cutting down on fuel. So the amount of fuel that we are giving Ministries is lessened and that is a huge savings,” Briceno said.
