By Zoila Palma: During an interview with 7News Belize on May 20, 2026, Prime Minister John Briceno said that the PUP’s national executive met on Monday and discussed conventions for municipal election candidates.
“We have many of the present councillors that are going to run again. We are going to have some conventions in some areas quite likely Orange Walk Town, we may not. Orange Walk Town has been very successful as a council; we don’t see any problems there,” the PM said.
In addition, the PM said that the PUP does not expect any hostilities about 2 young men that are considering running.
“I think they are excellent choices for Belize City. So, whichever one was to emerge as the next mayoral candidate I think Belize City will be in good hands,” the Prime Minister added.
