By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating a suspected home invasion turned deadly after the body of an elderly farmer was discovered near his residence on Santa Martha Road, Orange Walk.
The victim, 70-year-old Francisco Perfecto Garcia, was reported missing earlier in the day by family members who had been unable to contact him. His son went to check on him around 2:30 p.m. and found the house in disarray, prompting a search of the property.
Garcia’s body was later found in a nearby bushy area, bearing multiple chop wounds. Police also recovered a black-handled machete believed to have blood stains from the yard.
Investigators observed signs of forced entry, including broken glass louvers on a window. Several items were reported stolen from the home, including an iPhone 11, a tabletop stove, gas tanks, and a wheelbarrow.
No suspects have been identified at this time, and police say the investigation remains ongoing.
