By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 36-year-old deaf mute man from Ladyville has been granted bail after being arraigned on five criminal charges, including theft and resisting lawful arrest.

Marlon Winston Pollard, a resident of Lords Bank area, Ladyville, appeared on Tuesday morning in Court #6 before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Because Pollard is deaf and mute, the court provided an interpreter who communicated the charges to him through sign language as they were explained by the magistrate.

Pollard was read five charges: one count of theft, one count of harm, one count of resisting lawful arrest, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of wounding.

Prosecutors allege that Pollard stole a cellphone valued at $1,400 and a Wi-Fi extension valued at $89, totaling $1,489 from a woman. He is also accused of causing harm to the woman, resisting lawful arrest by an cop while the officer was executing his duties, committing aggravated assault against the same officer, and wounding another individual.

Pollard pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Senior Magistrate Dennison granted him bail in the sum of $3,000 for each charge plus one surety of the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, Pollard must not contact the virtual complainants and must remain at least 100 feet away from them.

The matter has been adjourned to May 5, 2026.
