By Zoila Palma: Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that it has verified 13 attacks on health infrastructure in Iran amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli military campaign.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency is also checking reports that four healthcare workers were killed and 25 others injured during the conflict.
Tedros said the fighting has displaced large numbers of civilians, with an estimated 100,000 people leaving Iran and more than 60,000 displaced in Lebanon, Reuters report.
WHO regional director Hanan Balkhy said four ambulances in Iran were also affected and that hospitals and other health sites suffered minor damage from nearby strikes, according to Iranian authorities.
One hospital in Tehran had to be evacuated due to the damage.
A WHO spokesperson later said the 13 verified attacks in Iran resulted in three deaths and no injuries, while three attacks in Lebanon caused three deaths and six injuries.
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva has alleged that 10 health facilities were struck by military attacks.
Meanwhile, the WHO said its logistics hub in Dubai, which supplies medical aid to dozens of countries, is temporarily out of service due to transport restrictions linked to the conflict.
