By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers are headed to the Toucan Cup Finals.

In a decisive Game 3 of the Belize Premier Basketball League Play-In series, Griga defeated the Punta Gorda Panthers 74–55 Friday night at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga, securing their spot in the conference finals against the San Pedro Tiger Sharks.

Griga’s victory capped a hard-fought series that saw both teams trade wins in the opening two games. The Dream Ballers took Game 1 at home 74–61 on August 15, while PG responded with a historic 88–73 win in Punta Gorda the following night—marking their first-ever playoff victory.

🏀 Game 3 Breakdown

Griga’s defense set the tone early, holding PG to just 32.1% shooting and a dismal 0-for-16 from beyond the arc. Deshawn Brackett led the scoring with 16 points on 61.5% shooting, while Edgar Mitchell added 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Kevon Laurie and Kirk Smith Jr. each posted double-doubles, combining for 18 points and 21 rebounds.

PG’s Kyle Steward led all scorers with 20 points and 9 rebounds, but the Panthers struggled to find support beyond Marquise Cunningham’s 13-point, 10-rebound effort. PG committed 16 turnovers and managed only 7 assists, unable to replicate the offensive rhythm that carried them in Game 2.

With the win, Griga advances to face the San Pedro Tiger Sharks in the Toucan Cup Finals beginning September 5. The series promises a clash of styles—Griga’s depth and defensive grit versus San Pedro’s high-octane offense.

Meanwhile, in the Mayan Cup bracket, the Belize City Thunderbolts have already punched their ticket to the finals after sweeping the Belmopan Capital City Kings. They’ll meet the Cayo Western Ballaz starting September 5.

The champions of both conferences will collide in the Jaguar Championship series beginning September 26 at the Belize City Civic Center.
