British High Commissioner Alistair White on June 11, 2026, officially installed the second book-sharing box under the “Red Box Reads” initiative at the Belmopan Public Library, further expanding efforts to encourage literacy and a love of reading among young people in Belize.
Inspired by the United Kingdom’s iconic red telephone boxes, the initiative aims to improve equitable access to books while fostering a culture of reading within communities. The book-sharing boxes provide readers with free access to a diverse collection of literature and encourage the exchange of books among community members.
The newly installed box is stocked with a carefully curated selection of works by UK authors, ranging from beloved classics to contemporary favorites for young readers.
Through Red Box Reads, the British High Commission hopes to support literacy development, promote lifelong learning, and strengthen cultural ties between the United Kingdom and Belize.
