By Zoila Palma: Two more American fugitives have been captured in Belize and returned to the United States to face serious criminal charges, including weapons trafficking and rape.
In a statement released today, the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) confirmed that its special agents and investigators at the U.S. Embassy in Belize coordinated the successful return of the fugitives.
The operation was carried out with the assistance of multiple agencies, including the United States Marshals Service, FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Belize Police Department, INTERPOL Headquarters, Belize Immigration Department, Tennessee law enforcement, and the Embassy Belmopan Consular Affairs Section.
The fugitives were handed over to U.S. authorities and are now expected to face prosecution in the United States.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the individuals, but the coordinated effort highlights the continued partnership between Belize and the United States in combating international crime.
