By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jose Luis Ramos, a 48-year-old Honduran national residing in Southside Belize City, was sentenced to five months in prison last week for two counts of sexual assault against an eight-year-old girl. Ramos had pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, admitting to inappropriately touching the child’s private parts and buttocks.

The assaults occurred on January 22, 2025, when the young girl was sent to a local shop to make a purchase. Senior Magistrate of Court #2, in delivering the sentence, noted that this was Ramos’s first conviction and that he had saved the court time by pleading guilty. The magistrate’s starting point was six months for each count, to run concurrently.

A one-month deduction was applied for time already served on remand, bringing the final sentence to five months. Ramos, in mitigation, claimed he was intoxicated at the time of the assaults.
