By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Recent polls and prediction markets suggest a potential Republican sweep in the upcoming election, with Donald Trump leading Kamala Harris for the presidency and GOP candidates likely to flip the Senate and maintain control of the House.
According to Fortune, polling analysis from 538 gives Trump a 53% chance of winning, compared to 47% for Harris.
Prediction markets like Kalshi show Trump at 62% and Republicans with an 85% chance of gaining the Senate majority.
Interactive Brokers’ new forecast puts Trump’s odds at 63%, while Democrats have just a 13% chance of holding the Senate.
This shift marks a change from earlier this summer when Harris was seen as the frontrunner.
Analysts attribute her declining momentum to a shift in campaign strategy from a positive Harris message to a more aggressive anti-Trump stance.
A Republican victory could impact economic policies, with Trump hinting at tax cuts and increased tariffs, potentially exacerbating federal deficits and inflation.
The recent market selloff reflects concerns over these electoral outcomes, as investors fear fiscal policies could worsen the national debt.
