By Wellington C. Ramos. Adjunct Professor of Political Science and History:
The question now is what will be done with the individuals who are constantly creating problems for their party and being unrealistic with Belize’s Elections outcomes? Many political parties would reduce their political funding if they are getting funded by the party. If they have their own funding and the party need them to win a majority in the House of Representatives that is a problem to deal with.
They know that a party that is dysfunctional and fragmented cannot win any election and yet they are continuing their quest to change the Leader and some Executive Members of their party before a General Election, just because they want to be Leader or satisfy their egos. When Patrick Faber was the Leader he had the same problems with John Saldivar, Gasper Vega Shyne Barrow and others so this is nothing new to them. John Saldivar and Patrick Faber were at odds with each other for years while Dean Barrow was the Retiring Leader and Prime Minister. Now, they are what we call in America Frenemies.
Fifty-one (51) years ago when Reverend Gerald Fairweather was selected as their Mediator met on the 27th of September 1973 with the Leaders of; National Independence Party (NIP)-Leader-Philip Goldson who was studying Law in England, People’s Development Movement (PDM) Leader Dean Lindo, the Liberal Party Leader Manuel Esquivel and United Black Association for Development (UBAD) Leader-Evan X Hyde to form the United Democratic Party they all agreed that if they stayed divided they were not going to have a chance to defeat PUP and that was the motivation for forming one party and to put their egos aside.

PUP is the oldest political party in Belize formed on September the 29th 1950 but after independence in 1981, UDP began to be a force to reckon with. At this Point I recommend that; a mediation with a Mediator or Mediators from both sides is needed to resolve their issues.
Then, recommendations be made to the Party Chairman (PC) and the National Party Council (NPC) and that their recommendations be implemented gradually, while they commence preparing for the Upcoming General Election. If not, they will be playing into the hands of the PUP and will lose the General Election by a landslide. Remember, that when your party loses everybody in the party loses and you must wait another 5yrs to have another chance. Time is not on UDP’s side to make these recommended drastic changes. Nobody is in this political business to lose. Most people are in this business to win, gain power and exercise their powers. If you do not accept this in politics then you are in the wrong business.
Members of the party are getting discourage, frustrated and isolated with this continuing infighting and no new members will not join under this political climate. Organizational Leadership teaches that; Sometimes
