By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, police in Las Vegas responded to reports of an active shooter at the University of Nevada.
According to Reuters, the Police department urged residents to avoid the area.
Professor Vincent Perez told the media that he heard a lot of gunfire.
“As soon as we heard that, we ran back inside and we realized this is a real shooting, and there’s an active shooter on campus,” Perez said via telephone.
Police said the shooting occurred near the Beam Hall and “there appears to be multiple victims at this time.”
Shortly after, the police informed, “The suspect has been located and is deceased.”
The University posted to X urging students to remain sheltered in place since police are still evacuating buildings.
“This remains an active investigation. The suspect has been contained,” the University noted.
The White House said it was monitoring the situation in Las Vegas.
