By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 28 year old man from August Pine Ridge Village says his own father attacked him with a machete during an argument over land.
The man, a driver, visited the Orange Walk Police Station on Friday, October 30, and reported that the incident happened around 10:30pm on Thursday, October 29.
He told police he had gone to his father’s board house, which sits next to his own home in the same yard, to bring him food. He has lived beside his father for more than 10 years.
While he was inside washing clothes, an argument broke out over an ongoing land dispute.
He said he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. When he turned around, his father was about two feet away, holding a machete roughly three feet long, and swung it at him in a chopping motion.
The man raised his left hand to protect his neck and suffered a cut to the hand. He ran out of the house, went into his own home and locked the door.
He was issued medico legal forms and treated at the Northern Regional Hospital, where a doctor certified his injury as grievous harm.
Police have recorded his statement and are looking for his father.
