By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 20-year-old laborer from Belize City has been fined after pleading guilty to possession of a crack pipe, despite claiming he was unknowingly set up by a female acquaintance.
Anthony Mosaya appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Court #4 on Tuesday morning, where he was charged with possession of utensils used for smoking a controlled drug. The charge stems from an incident on March 3, 2025, when police found a 2.5-inch metal pipe in Mosaya’s bag during a search on West Collet Canal around 2:30 p.m.
Mosaya pleaded guilty but insisted that the pipe was not his. He told the court that he had earlier encountered a female friend who asked him for a ride and, without his knowledge, slipped the pipe into his bag. He denied being a drug user.
Although he admitted guilt, Mosaya maintained that he had no idea the item was in his possession. Given his first-time offender status, the court issued a non-custodial sentence—a fine of $250 plus $5 cost of court. He was given until Friday, June 6, 2025, to pay. If he fails to do so, he faces two weeks in prison.
