By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating the sudden death of a Belize Defence Force volunteer that occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 1:30 pm on April 21, authorities received information of a sudden death at the Northern Regional Hospital. Police responded to the emergency room where they observed the motionless body of a Creole male lying on a hospital bed.
The deceased has been identified as 25 year old Jaime Glenn Garcia, a Belizean BDF volunteer of Progress Street.
Initial reports indicate that Garcia was at a booth at the BDF camp along with two BDF privates when he suddenly began gasping for breath, collapsed, and became unresponsive.
One of the officers present reportedly performed CPR before Garcia was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:25 pm.
Police say no visible injuries were observed on the body and there is no known medical history at this time.
The scene at the BDF camp was processed and photographed. Authorities say no foul play is suspected.
Garcia’s body has since been transported to the Northern Regional Hospital morgue where it awaits a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
