By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a complaint from a Mahogany Heights woman who claims she lost $1,728 after paying for shoes that were never delivered and subsequently making an unintended bank transfer to the same recipient.
A 40-year-old woman reported that she transferred $778 to an Atlantic Bank account belonging to another woman in Corozal on July 13, 2026, for a shipment of shoes expected one week later.
The woman said she travelled to Nicaragua on business and arranged for the shoes to be delivered to her husband or son. However, when she returned to Belize in August, neither had received the merchandise.
She subsequently made unsuccessful attempts to contact the woman.
According to her complaint, she later discovered that an additional $950 had been transferred to the same account on September 27 through what appeared to be a recurring automatic bank transaction.
The complainant told police that she contacted Atlantic Bank in an attempt to stop further transfers and paid a $16 fee for assistance, but remained concerned about the transaction arrangement.
She has requested court action, claiming she has received neither the merchandise nor a refund. Police have obtained receipts and are investigating the matter as a suspected case of obtaining property by deception.
