By Zoila Palma: Belizean hairdresser turned content creator Yuhan is reflecting on 12 years of career changes, personal challenges and major achievements, sharing how he went from building a successful salon business to becoming one of Belize’s popular social media personalities and a gaming sensation with more than one million YouTube subscribers.
Yuhan recalled how he initially learned hairstyling because he did not want to continue studying. He eventually opened three salons, moved locations several times and built a reputation that attracted celebrities, well-known personalities and even the Prime Minister’s wife. Despite reaching what he considered the top of Belize’s hair industry, he decided to walk away from the career to pursue something he loved more. “I wanted to live a life doing something I truly loved,” he wrote.
Yuhan then ventured into content creation, producing short videos that quickly gained traction.
Within three years, he said he became one of Belize’s most popular influencers, with multiple videos surpassing 10 million views. His growing popularity also opened doors to television appearances, commercials, public speaking engagements at schools across Belize and an opportunity to interview the Prime Minister. Reflecting on the support he received, he said, “You are the ones who changed my life.”
However, his journey took a dramatic turn after a serious car accident that he said nearly cost him his life.
The experience marked the beginning of another chapter as he returned to a childhood passion for gaming. Starting from scratch once again, Yuhan worked to build his gaming platforms and eventually reached the number one position worldwide in his chosen video game.
He also surpassed one million subscribers on YouTube and said his combined following across his original influencer platforms and gaming channels is approaching two million.
Looking back on the unexpected turning point, he wrote, “An accident that almost ended my life somehow became the beginning of an entirely new chapter.”
For Yuhan, the past 12 years have demonstrated that success does not have to mean remaining in one career forever.
His story is one of repeatedly taking risks, adapting to change and pursuing new ambitions despite already achieving success in other fields.
Encouraging others to follow their passions, he shared his belief that “If you truly love something, and you’re willing to keep pushing forward, nobody can easily stand in your way.”
