By Zoila Palma: The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring two areas of disturbed weather over the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of America.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are located several hundred miles east of the Leeward Islands, where showers and thunderstorms have increased. However, the system has no closed circulation, and redevelopment is considered unlikely as it moves westward to west-northwestward at about 25 mph.
The disturbance has a near-zero percent chance of tropical formation over the next 48 hours and a 10 percent chance over the next seven days. It could still bring locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds to parts of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico in the coming days.
Meanwhile, disorganized showers and cloudiness over the northeastern and north-central Gulf are associated with a weak area of low pressure about 100 miles south-southwest of Pensacola, Florida.
The NHC says any development is expected to be slow as the system drifts westward, with a near-zero percent formation chance over 48 hours and 10 percent over seven days.
