By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Blue Creek Village couple suffered burn injuries after a gas tank caught fire at their home on Monday afternoon.
Police say that around 12:00pm on October 26, a 31 year old woman was washing and drying clothes in a concrete washroom about 10 feet from the family’s two storey house when a plastic table fell onto a gas tank connected to the dryer, causing gas to spray out.
She called for help, and her 28 year old husband, a nurse, rushed in and tried to shut the valve. Before he could, the tank burst into flames, burning his arms and hands.
He ran outside, while his wife took cover in a small bathroom inside the washroom. The fire quickly spread through the washroom and reached a red Chevrolet pickup parked about five feet away, which was completely destroyed.
The husband was treated for burns to both arms and the right side of his face, while his wife suffered burns to her arms and legs. Neither injury is considered life threatening.
The value of the property destroyed has not yet been determined.
