By Zoila Palma: Toledo East Area Representative Osmond Martinez has encouraged Belizeans to reflect on their national identity, the country’s progress, and their shared responsibility for Belize’s future as the country celebrates its 45th Independence anniversary.

Martinez highlighted the importance of national pride, unity, community, and the contributions of Belizeans across the country during his Independence speech.

“This year’s theme says: ‘Look At Me: I Am Belize at 45.’ And when we look at Belize, we do not only see a flag, a map, or a day of celebration. We see our people,” Martinez said.

He recognized the contributions of farmers, fishermen, teachers, nurses, vendors, mechanics, students, and elders, describing their daily efforts as part of the identity and strength of Belize.

“That is Belize,” Martinez declared, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the people who contribute to the country’s development.

The area representative also called on Belizeans to celebrate Independence Day with joy and cultural pride while maintaining a commitment to the country’s future.

“We are peaceful, but we are proud. We are diverse, but we are united. We are small, but we are strong. We are Belizeans,” he stated.
