By Horace Palacio: A woman from San Jose Village reported being verbally and physically assaulted on Saturday evening while purchasing food in Orange Walk Town.

The woman told police that she was buying churros on Queen Victoria Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. when her cousin approached her. The cousin allegedly insulted her, calling her derogatory names in Spanish, including “Puta Gorda,” which translates to “Fat whore” in English. The verbal abuse escalated when the cousin reportedly grabbed the woman’s right hand and scratched her forearm, causing pain and swelling.

Police have issued a medico-legal form, and a doctor has certified the woman’s injuries as “Harm.” Authorities have listed the cousin, from Cristo Rey Village in Corozal District, as wanted in connection with the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.
