By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City paralegal Veida Cruzita Gomez-Musa, 32, appeared in Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning, October 29, where she was charged with a single count of failure to provide a specimen following a spectacular late-night crash that caused an estimated $39,950 in damage to businessman Said Perdomo’s King’s Park residence.
Despite the extensive property damage and police observations that Gomez-Musa appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, no charges relating to driving under the influence, dangerous driving or damage to property were brought against her at Thursday’s arraignment.
According to court details, police responded to the accident shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23, and found a grey Hyundai Creta SUV, bearing licence plate BCC-85526, which had crashed through a large metal gate at Perdomo’s residence on 13th Street.
Officers reportedly found Gomez-Musa in the driver’s seat, appearing hysterical and under the influence of alcohol. Paramedics subsequently examined her and determined that she did not require further medical attention.
Perdomo, 47, told investigators that he recognized the driver as Veida Gomez and that her husband was seated in the rear passenger seat. He reportedly observed that both appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Police accounts also confirmed the presence of her husband in the back seat of the vehicle.
Investigators subsequently reviewed surveillance footage confirming that Gomez-Musa was driving the SUV when it crashed into the property. Police escorted her to the Queen Street Police Station, where she was informed that she was suspected of driving with an alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
A police constable requested a urine specimen for analysis and reportedly warned Gomez-Musa that refusing to provide one without reasonable excuse constituted an offence. According to police, she declined to provide the specimen, resulting in the single charge brought before the court.
Gomez-Musa, represented by attorney Dale Cayetano, pleaded not guilty before a magistrate in Court #5. With no objection from the prosecution, she was granted bail of $500 plus one surety of the same amount, which she met before leaving the courthouse shortly after 10 a.m.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 31, 2026.
The case follows earlier reporting by Breaking Belize News, which documented the extensive damage to Perdomo’s property and the initial questions surrounding the police investigation.
While officers reportedly suspected alcohol impairment, no specimen was obtained to establish Gomez-Musa’s alcohol concentration, and the allegation of impairment has not been proven in court. The circumstances nevertheless raise questions about whether additional traffic offences were considered, particularly given the damage caused and the evidence obtained by investigators.
