By Zoila Palma: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), is working to strengthen Belize’s disaster recovery arrangements through a two-day workshop that began on November 3, 2026, at Dream Valley Resort in Teakettle, Cayo.
The workshop brings together representatives from various government ministries and departments to review existing recovery arrangements and identify ways to improve coordination among agencies.
Discussions are focusing on ensuring that government institutions are better prepared to work together when supporting communities and restoring essential services following a major disaster.
Participants are also reviewing the roles and responsibilities of different agencies and the procedures required to guide recovery efforts.
The workshop, which concludes on November 4, forms part of broader national efforts to strengthen Belize’s disaster preparedness, response and recovery systems.
