By Aaron Humes: Their petition for a National Convention of the United Democratic Party has been rejected tby party chairman Michael Peyrefitte.
But that’s not the end of the matter for parliamentarian and puative challenger for party leader Tracey Taegar Panton and second deputy leader Beverly Williams.
Williams responded in an angry letter to the chairman concerning his denial of “Our duly signed petition for a national convention.” She informs that Peyrefitte ” [has] no authority under the party’s constitution to reject our request. The constitution provides no discretionary powers to you in this regard. Your decision… is an act of totalitarianism. We will not allow this decision to stand and will take whatever actions necessary to force your compliance with the party’s constitution.”
The Party is scheduled to try for another National Party Council meeting following Saturday’s prematurely ended attempt to discuss the Party’s defeat in the Toledo East by-election.
But Taegar Panton, Williams and heavyweights Patrick Faber and John Saldivar want to discuss the removal of Philip Willoughby as standard bearer for Port Loyola and the removal of Moses “Shyne” Barrow himself as Party leader and potentially Leader of the Opposition.
