By Zoila Palma:  Reports indicate that the UDP’s executive has informed those who applied to represent the UDP as councilor candidates in the 2027 municipal elections that they must go to a convention.

Among those is veteran UDP Councillor Bernadette “Berny” Fernandez who has served 7 terms as councilor in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

Bernadette reportedly indicated to 7News Belize that she will step aside and will not participate in the August 2 convention.

In addition, Fernandez said that being asked to go to convention after having won for 7 consecutive terms is considered disrespectful to her.

Meanwhile, Mayor Earl Trapp has expressed his support for Fernandez and will seek to discuss this with the UDP leadership.
