U.S. Embassy in Belize celebrates 250th Anniversary of U.S. Independence

By Zoila Palma:  On July 1, 2026, the United States Embassy in Belize celebrated the 250th Anniversary of U.S. Independence.

The event hosted by U.S. Charge d’Affaires Katharine Beamer was held at Di Bruwry in Ladyville.

Beautifully decorated red, white and blue filled Di Bruwry’s restaurant and lawn along with booths representing states including Washington D.C., New York, Texas and more.

U.S. Charge d’Affaires Beamer welcomed dignitaries including Prime Minister John Briceno, Governor General Froyla Tzalam, Ministers, CEO’S and guests.

Governor General Tzalam highlighted the U.S. and Belize’s historic partnership and diplomatic relations while extending congratulations to the United States on their 250th anniversary of Independence.

Prime Minister Briceno also emphasized the U.S. and Belize’s bilateral relations and cooperation in programs including those of citizen security, education, energy and more.

U.S. Charge d’Affaires Beamer outlined some of the U.S. Government’s premier exchange programs including the Fulbright program, Hubert Humphreys program and the International Visitor Leadership Program.

In addition, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires underscored the modifications to the Belize Compact, a US$125 million grant agreement with the U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), focused on investments in education and energy to support long-term economic growth in Belize.

The compact is one of the largest grant investments in Belize’s history.

The evening concluded with a ceremonial toast as dignitaries and guests joined in celebrating the United States’ 250th Anniversary of Independence, reaffirming the enduring friendship and strong partnership between Belize and the United States.
