By Zoila Palma:  On March 19, 2026, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Katharine Beamer visited the Jalacte Border Crossing between Belize and Guatemala to reinforce U.S. commitment to securing our hemisphere, and making U.S. and Belize borders safer by curbing irregular migration, smuggling, and other illicit activities.

CDA Beamer met with frontline officers from Immigration, Customs, and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority who work daily to intercept illegal crossings and contraband—protecting both Belizean and American communities from transnational criminal networks.

Jointly, these officers conduct critical interagency coordination and enforcement to strengthen border security, uphold the rule of law, and support regional stability.

“Strong borders in partner countries mean safer communities in the United States,” the U.S. Embassy said.

“Through targeted U.S. assistance, we’re helping Belize build enforcement capacity that delivers results and keeps America safe,” the Embassy added.
