By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children is calling for Belize to establish a national sex offenders registry, saying the move is now critical to protecting women and children.

In a strongly worded press release issued today, the office said the identities of convicted sexual offenders should not remain hidden while children continue facing abuse, exploitation and violence.

The statement pointed to growing public concern over allegations involving individuals in positions of authority, including educators and police officers, saying the situation has intensified demands for greater accountability and transparency.

The Special Envoy’s Office stressed that a national registry would help empower families and communities with information while also helping prevent repeat offences.

The release ended with a call for Belizeans to “break the silence” and stand together to protect children across the country.
