By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U16 Belize Girls National Team (BGNT) are set to play their third international friendly match in an eight-day span today as they cross the border into Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The BGNT will face local side Club Amigas Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm at the Estadio 10 de abril in Othón P. Blanco, Chetumal, providing another crucial test in their intense preparation for the upcoming Central American Football Union (UNCAF) Under 16 Championship.
The Belizean side arrive in Mexico riding a wave of success, having secured back-to-back victories just last weekend against Guatemala’s Acafut Petén’s Tigritos. On Saturday, October 25, the team defeated Tigritos 3-1 at the Estadio Marco Antonio Fión Castellanos in Santa Elena, Petén.

The momentum carried through to Sunday’s match at Estadio Comunal de Paxcamán in Santa Ana, where the offense exploded for a dominant 4-1 victory. Forward Amina Burgess was the star of the day, netting an impressive hat trick, while Deborah Gordon added a fourth goal to seal the decisive win.
These international opportunities are invaluable for Head Coach Gabriel Ramos Sr and staff, allowing them to test player combinations, evaluate fitness levels, and improve the tactical system ahead of the UNCAF U16 Championship. Playing a Mexican club team like Club Amigas will present a different style of opponent, ensuring the team remain adaptable and sharp.
