By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have arrested and charged two people in connection with last month’s armed robbery at a Caribbean International Brewery office in Independence.
Police identified the accused during Monday’s press briefing as Selene Martinez and Jamar Vernon, both of whom have been charged with robbery.
The arrests follow the September 27 incident, previously reported by BBN, in which four armed men reportedly held up a businessman at the establishment.
According to the initial police report, the men arrived in a Kia vehicle and entered the business armed with firearms. They allegedly stole a 9mm pistol before demanding the keys to a safe and making off with documents and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspected getaway vehicle was later discovered abandoned at a banana farm in the Bella Vista area.
Police said Monday that investigators subsequently gathered evidence leading to the arrests of Martinez and Vernon, and that some of the stolen property has since been recovered.
The matter is now before the courts.
