By Aaron Humes: Police continue to investigate a fatal road traffic accident on Sunday evening in rural Orange Walk.
A Ford F-150 pick-up truck being driven by 29-year-old Selvin Cortez of San Felipe Village, Orange Walk District, and carrying 19-year-old Sherlin Henriquez of August Pine Ridge, and 35-year-old Brian Magana of San Felipe is alleged per Staff Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith, “to have collided into the left front portion of one of the trailers. The impact caused the pickup truck to lose control and carrying resulting in the death of the three occupants.” This happened near August Pine Ridge and involved a Freightliner tandem truck which was towing two wooden trailers that contained sugar cane, going the opposite direction from the Ford.
Reports suggest the group were returning from the Commercial Free Zone, Corozal with multiple bottles of alcohol, but whether any of the group were impaired will be established by toxicology reports conducted as part of their autopsies.
