By Horace Palacio: Immigration authorities in Belize have detained three foreign nationals wanted in Guatemala on charges of sexual offenses, potentially disrupting an international human trafficking network.
The three men—two American citizens and one Canadian—allegedly crossed into Belize illegally just one day before they were scheduled to appear in a Guatemalan court. According to sources, the men are wanted in connection with 12 counts of sexual offenses involving minors.
Guatemalan authorities have also requested assistance from Belizean police to locate 12 minors, aged 11 to 18, who are believed to be held by a group operating within a Jewish community. Efforts are underway to determine if the three detainees are connected to the missing minors.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams confirmed the arrests, stating that Belizean authorities are collaborating with their Guatemalan counterparts to ensure the suspects face justice. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, Williams did not provide further details.
The detained individuals have been identified as Avrahom Dinkel, Malka Chaim, and Moshe Yhida Alter. They are currently in the custody of immigration authorities, pending further legal proceedings, which may include extradition to Guatemala.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on uncovering any additional links to human trafficking or other criminal activities within Belize.
