By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City has reportedly recorded its third murder in less than 48 hours following a shooting on Central American Boulevard on Friday night.
Preliminary reports indicate that police responded to gunfire in the area and that a shooting victim was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). The victim has been identified as Jordy Bowen, who is reportedly deceased. However, official confirmation of his death and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains pending.
The latest shooting follows two murders on Thursday, October 8. Seventeen-year-old Kaylon David was shot on Iguana Street Extension around 6:30 p.m. and later died at the hospital. Approximately three hours later, 20-year-old Shamar Smith was gunned down on Pelican Street by an assailant who reportedly arrived on a motorcycle. Both incidents remain under investigation.
Following those killings, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero acknowledged concerns about possible retaliatory violence and said police were launching operations and holding meetings to prevent further bloodshed. Investigators have not established any connection between Friday night’s shooting and the two earlier murders.
Police have yet to release further details on the latest incident.
