By Zoila Palma: The political scene is intensifying as candidates from various political parties gear up for the upcoming general elections.
Today, hopefuls from the People’s United Party (PUP), the United Democratic Party (UDP), the Alliance for Democracy (AFD), and independent candidates are preparing for nominations, signaling the beginning of a high-stakes race leading up to March 12.
The PUP has unveiled a slate of 31 candidates, while UDP leader Shyne Barrow has introduced 30 candidates. Tracy Panton has fielded 15 candidates, making the contest even more dynamic.
One of the most closely watched and fiercely contested races will take place in Corozal Bay, where the PUP’s Thea Garcia Ramirez is set to challenge former PUP area representative, Elvia Vega Samos.
Vega Samos, now running as an independent, has gained support from Shyne Barrow and his party.
