HIS LIGHT REMAINS:
Psalm 34:19
The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.
Psalm 121:1-2.
I will lift my eyes to the hills, where my help comes from. My help comes from the Lord, The Maker of heaven and earth.
There are some who bring a light so bright to the world, that even after they have gone, the light remains.
Mr. Aaron Francis Humes was that light.
HIS BIRTH:
On Wednesday the 26th of November, 1986, His parents, Mr. Hughdarrel Humes Jr, and Mrs. Deborah Humes, lovingly welcomed their first child into their lives, a bouncy baby boy, and named him Aaron Francis Humes.
HIS EARLY LIFE:
As his family, it was a joy to watch him grow because we always knew that Aaron carried a special light.
Aaron, being the only child at the time was a very resourceful child.
At a very early age, he taught himself how to read, and spoke fluent English. Creole was not a part of his vocabulary.
Anyone that spoke to him was always impressed with how he articulated his words with his responses when he was speaking with anyone who had his attention.
One sentence was repeated many times over, “this kid is so smart for his age.” He was about 2 or 3 years old at the time. He carried that light wherever he went.
Our family was privileged to watch him grow from a baby, to the man be became. It warmed our hearts to see him believe that to dream a dream is a spark, but to live out that dream is the light he is, and no one can take it away.
To always remember, that no one can make him feel less than whom he was without his consent.
Aaron was never your average child and so he never did childish things.
In the summer time, when school was out, he was never one to be outside playing with his siblings or the other neighborhood kids. In any of our home environments he was in, he would find a book, the newspaper, or an article, anything he could find to read, took his corner of the room and read it cover to cover, and asked if there was anything else he could read. The response, “boy you read all the books.”
When the neighborhood kids stopped by, and asked if he could come out to play with them, he told them he was busy. That was Aaron, never a moment to waste.
HIS EDUCATIONAL LIFE:
Aaron attended and excelled in his formal education years at, Yabra – Pre-school, Queen Square Anglican Primary School, Wesley College, St. John’s College Sixth Form/Junior College, and finished his education at the University of Belize with a Bachelor’s degree. He also had aspirations to go back to school to do his Master’s Degree.
He also did several CXCs and attended many informational seminars as they became available to him.
IN HIS PROFESSIONAL LIFE: Aaron’s vision and mission was clear, he knew he was always destined to become a journalist. Reading and professional writing was imprinted into his D.N.A.
During his career he worked for several media houses and gained a wide range of experience and additional knowledge.
He took his craft very seriously and worked tirelessly and diligently with the pen of a skilled and a ready writer. He got to tell your stories.
He enjoyed every last second of his journalism career.
Whether he was in a press room or behind his computer, he was in his element, the world he knew best.
It was never an easy road for him in his chosen career path, but he was always up for the challenge, from extra late nights to extra early mornings.
Every journalist knows that if you are the last one to report a story, then it was not breaking news anymore, but he never gave up, even when it almost cost him his career. Like David in the bible, he went up against Goliath, so to speak, that was placed in his path.
He never wavered in his convictions or his beliefs, he told the truth.
That was his character and who he was.
That is also why it’s called FREEDOM OF THE PRESS.
He knew it took a village, and his village was surrounding him strong so he kept on doing what he did best, he did the interviews and wrote the stories.
He even won a few awards along the way.
He enjoyed being a part of his media family, working with his bosses, his co-workers, his colleagues, his acquaintances, his friends, and everyone else that became a part of his life along the way.
IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE: Aaron was never one for the spotlight, he let the work he has doing speak for him then, and that work is speaking for him now, in many ways, shapes and forms, by all who got to know him, loved him and those who cared.
Aaron never physically played sports, but that doesn’t mean he was not a sports fan. He loved to watch football and basketball when he could, and would engage in hearty conversation with the best of them, he knew there was a story to be written.
Aaron was also a quiet person by nature, with a sensitive spirit, a very mannerly and respectful person from humble beginnings.
Those who know him know he was a loving, patient, kind, giving, caring, and friendly person.
Aaron was ground zero for many, from his media colleagues, to his school mates, to his family and friends, whether he was mentoring, tutoring, or being a teacher at heart.
He always took the time that was needed and help in any way he could with care and compassion.
He always looked forward to his birthday every year, because his favorite meal was turkey dinner, and whether his mom cooked it, or he bought a plate of food; that became the yearly tradition with him and his family.
He loved his family with every heartbeat God gave him, right to his final breath on this earth, and we all loved him right back.
This life didn’t allowed him the time to do the traditional things, like get married, have a family of his own, or travel outside of the country.
He traveled throughout Belize, with every opportunity that was given to him.
He was very excited when he got to take his first airplane ride, to cover a story in Stan Creek District.
He enjoyed the beauty of his home, Belize City, because there was always where his heart was.
HIS LAST BREAKING NEWS STORY:
To be absent from the body, is to be present with God. 2 Corinthians 5:8
Aaron Francis Humes, put down his pen for the last time and quietly transitioned from his assignments here on earth, when he took God’s hands and walked with Him into eternal glory, on Tuesday, the 19th of May 2026.

POEM:
His light remains.
A light so bright, a light that’s true, the light you carry, will always be you.
You blaze the trails and left your mark, your love forever imprinted inside our hearts.
We don’t know why?
We don’t know when?
God would tell you about a breaking news, story just around the bend.
The assignment to you was loud and clear, you were ready with your pen, and God said, “over here.”
You were excited for the opportunity to go, but you also wanted to stay, God smiled at you and said, “don’t worry, your work on earth is done son, everything will be fine, you’ll see them again someday.”
You reluctantly took God’s hand, because you knew that you had to go with Him to a distant place, beyond the beautiful shores.
It broke our hearts when you left us that day. The angels whispered, “you will see him again someday.”
With waters so blue and emerald green, with coconut tree swaying in the evening breeze. It’s hard to be sad, when you are smiling so bright.
Am fine over here, am at home with our families and friends.
God’s love is eternal and the light never ends.
When breaking news is happening, I’ll be ready with my pen, and follow the story, until the very end.
So weep if you must, but don’t lose hope, we will meet again one day, on God’s beautiful shores.
Love aunt Aunti D.
