By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) partnered with the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations to launch the Belize Music Project.
Operating under the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) and within MoECST, the Belize Music Project aims to document Belize’s diverse musical history with the mission of connecting younger generations of Belizean artists and music lovers with their cultural roots.
The project is a long-term initiative based on 3 main principles: research, education, and innovation.
Over the course of several months, the project’s experts will attempt to collate an archival library of music by digitizing all musical creations, even those recorded on technologies now considered vintage and no longer popular.
As the Music Project progresses, the research into still-undiscovered artists of the past will continue, and the digital library will continue to grow, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
