By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have formally arrested and charged Belize City resident Teashuan Kalym Jones in connection with a vehicle allegedly used during the October 28 armed robbery at Julie’s Used Clothing in Orange Walk Town.
According to an official police update, Jones was arrested and charged at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31.
He has been charged with participation in criminal activity in association with a gang.
During Sunday’s emergency police briefing, Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith explained that the charge stems from Jones’ alleged involvement in providing a vehicle used during the robbery.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was rented.
As previously reported by Breaking Belize News, armed men arrived at the used clothing establishment along the Belize–Corozal Road and robbed the proprietor before fleeing in a vehicle.
Investigators subsequently identified a vehicle of interest through surveillance technology and continued pursuing leads.
Smith said the case highlights growing concerns about the use of rental vehicles in criminal activities.
She explained that police have encountered numerous instances in which rented vehicles were allegedly used to facilitate serious crimes.
The government is now considering legislation aimed at strengthening recordkeeping requirements and accountability within the vehicle rental industry.
Jones is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
