By Zoila Palma: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) welcomed a delegation from Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on October 30, 2026, for a visit focused on the progress of a Chinese Language Education Programme established through collaboration between the two countries.
The delegation was headed by Taiwan ICDF Deputy Secretary-General Lee Jyh-Horng and was received by BDF Commander Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez.
The visiting delegation included representatives from Taiwan ICDF, National Dong Hwa University, Ming Chuan University and the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize.
During the visit, the delegation met with BDF personnel participating in the programme, observed Chinese language lessons and received an overview of the initiative’s implementation and achievements.
The Chinese Language Education Programme has been jointly implemented by TaiwanICDF and the BDF since 2022, providing Belizean soldiers with opportunities to develop Chinese language skills while gaining a greater understanding of the language and culture.
The initiative also provides an avenue for educational and cultural exchange between Belize and Taiwan.
The visit highlighted TaiwanICDF’s continued support for the educational partnership and the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation through education and cultural exchange.
