By Zoila Palma: Students of United Evergreen Primary School had an opportunity to explore the world of classic literature on October 29, when British High Commissioner to Belize, Alistair White, visited the school to read an excerpt from the renowned book Gulliver’s Travels.
The reading activity was held in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the publication of the classic novel, which was first published in 1726.
High Commissioner White engaged students through the story, introducing them to the adventures of its central character and encouraging them to imagine journeys to unfamiliar lands.
The visit highlighted the enduring value of literature in inspiring curiosity, creativity and a love for reading among young people.
Three centuries after its publication, Gulliver’s Travels continues to introduce readers to imaginative worlds and encourage exploration through storytelling.
Through initiatives such as this, students are encouraged to develop their reading skills, expand their imaginations and discover the possibilities that begin with opening a book.
