By Zoila Palma:  Belize’s domestic export earnings recorded a significant increase in September 2026, with sugar emerging as the leading contributor to the growth.

The country earned $47.9 million from domestic merchandise exports, representing an increase of $11.5 million, or 31.7 percent, compared to the $36.4 million recorded in September 2025.

Sugar accounted for the largest increase in export earnings, with revenues climbing from $3.8 million in September 2025 to $20.7 million in September 2026. The increase was largely attributed to the timing of shipments, as bulk sugar exports were recorded during September this year, while no bulk shipments were recorded during the same month last year.

Molasses also recorded improved export performance, with earnings rising from less than $100,000 in September 2025 to $300,000 in September 2026. The increase came as exported quantities of molasses grew considerably during the month.

Meanwhile, marine products maintained relatively stable export earnings at just over $4.1 million.
