By Zoila Palma: Belize recorded mixed export performance across its major international markets in September 2026, with increased earnings from the United States and United Kingdom helping drive overall domestic export growth, while exports to CARICOM, the European Union and Mexico declined.
Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) show export earnings from the United States increased substantially by $16.2 million, rising from $2.7 million in September 2025 to $18.9 million in September 2026. The increase was largely attributed to significantly higher sugar exports to that market. Earnings from the United Kingdom also improved, climbing by $2.3 million, from $3.3 million to $5.6 million, as a result of greater banana exports.
However, export earnings from CARICOM countries fell by $3.3 million, declining from $9.4 million in September 2025 to $6.2 million in September 2026.
The SIB attributed the decrease largely to reduced exports of orange concentrate.
Earnings from the European Union also declined by $2.1 million, moving from $8.9 million to $6.8 million due to lower banana exports. Meanwhile, revenues from Mexico dropped by $900,000, from $2.7 million to $1.8 million, reflecting lower formal exports of cattle.
Despite the declines in several markets, Belize’s overall domestic merchandise export earnings increased by 31.7 percent, reaching $47.9 million in September 2026, compared to $36.4 million in September 2025.
