By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Government of Belize has officially declared a state of public emergency for several areas across Belize City and parts of the Belize District.
The proclamation, signed by Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam and gazetted on May 8, 2026, states that the emergency measures are being implemented due to threats to public safety caused by criminal activity and violence.
The state of emergency covers multiple areas on the Southside and Northside of Belize City, along with sections of Belize Rural, including Ladyville, Burrell Boom, Fresh Pond, Buttercup Estates, Bermudian Landing, Lemonal, Isabella Bank, Rancho Dolores and Double Head Cabbage.
Under the order, officials are being granted expanded powers aimed at restoring public safety and controlling criminal activity within the affected communities.
The proclamation will remain in force for up to one month unless revoked or extended by the National Assembly.
