By Breaking Belize News Staff: Nineteen-year-old Kyle Arana has pleaded guilty to damaging government property after police surveillance footage showed him destroying a camera valued at $1,600 and an emergency bell worth $440, together totaling $2,040. Both items belonged to the Government of Belize and were installed at the corner of Lavender and Flamboyant Streets, a known trouble spot on Belize City’s Southside.
Arana, a fisherman of Oleander Street, appeared unrepresented in Court #5 on Monday and admitted to the charge of damage to property. The Magistrate deferred sentencing to September 8, 2025, and granted him bail of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount until that date.
According to police reports, surveillance review showed Arana climbing a pole late at night and repeatedly striking the 4K bullet camera with a hammer until it fell. Distinct tattoos on his chest and forearm helped police identify and later detain him.
