By Aaron Humes: Representatives of the Belize – Venezuela solidarity movement of Northern Belize, representatives of Mayan and Mestizo residents of the villages of San Narciso and Cristo Rey, the Belize Youth Movement and representatives of the community of Venezuelans residing in Belize met to call for peace for the people of Venezuela.
Venezuelan Ambassador Gerardo Argote spoke of what he called “the real reasons” behind international corporations and capitalist regional governments pushing for a change of government in Venezuela, after refusing to recognize the results of the presidential elections on July 28, where incumbent Nicolas Maduro was re-elected by a 52 percent majority.
Venezuelan doctor Yaneth Maldonado, on behalf of the Belize – Venezuela solidarity movement BELVEN of Northern Belize expressed that Venezuela is a people pursuing peace, despite the constant attacks it suffers from the international media.
Belizean attendees expressed overwhelming support for the Venezuelan people and the legitimate and constitutional government of President Nicolás Maduro, as well as the right of Venezuela to resolve their internal affairs without the intervention of a foreign country.
