By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): U.S. President Donald Trump says a major agreement between the United States and Iran is expected to be signed tomorrow, potentially marking a dramatic shift in relations between the two countries.
In a statement released Saturday, Trump said the proposed agreement would permanently prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon while reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
“Immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump stated.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, with a significant percentage of the world’s oil and natural gas shipments passing through the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman.
Trump described the proposed agreement as the opposite of the nuclear deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama, arguing that the new arrangement would be stronger and more effective.
The U.S. president also stated that no money would be exchanged under the agreement and warned that if negotiations fail, the United States has “the ultimate alternative.”
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and growing international concern over Iran’s nuclear program.
