By Zoila Palma: Belizean consumers paid significantly more for goods and services in June 2026, as the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) recorded a national inflation rate of 4.6 percent compared to June 2025. The All-Items CPI rose from 119.7 last year to 125.3 this June.
The Transport category remained the largest contributor to inflation, with prices rising by 13.6 percent over the year. The increase was largely driven by higher motor vehicle fuel prices, with diesel recording the biggest jump of $3.91 per gallon, from $11.42 in June 2025 to $15.33 in June 2026.
Premium gasoline increased by $2.33 per gallon, rising from $13.21 to $15.55, while regular gasoline went up by $2.22, from $11.56 to $13.78 per gallon.
Passenger transport services also became more expensive, rising by 15.5 percent due mainly to higher bus and taxi fares, as well as increased international airfares.
The SIB report showed that Transport, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels together accounted for more than three-fourths of the overall increase in consumer prices.
Insurance and Financial Services was the only category that remained virtually unchanged compared to June 2025.
