Shampoo, conditioner and body lotion thief strikes again; arrested for stealing bacon this time

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A convicted thief who was just charged a couple days ago for stealing shampoo, conditioner and body lotion has struck again and was charged, this time, for stealing bacon.

Marco Antonio Popper, 43, of Belama was fined $25 on Thursday for stealing a pack of bacon worth $4.95 from DK Supermarket on the Philip Goldson Highway. This comes just days after Popper was fined $305 for stealing shampoo products.

Yesterday, Popper appeared before Magistrate Lois Young in Court #4, where he promptly pleaded guilty to the theft charge. He told the court he stole the bacon to fry for his brother.

Previously, Popper had been fined $305 by a Senior Magistrate for stealing shampoo and body lotion from a Chinese store. When Magistrate Young heard about this, she asked Popper why he stole the bacon. Popper responded that he won’t repeat his actions.

Magistrate Young imposed a non-custodial sentence of a $25 fine plus a $5 court fee, totaling $30. Popper has until May 1, 2024, to pay the fine, or he will face one week in jail.

Outside the courtroom, when asked if he learned his lesson, Popper assured that he wouldn’t steal again.
