Coast Guard officer released on bail for assault charge

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Kenroy Alexander Reynolds, a 29-year-old Coast Guard officer from Lemonal Village, is out on bail of $1,000 after being charged with assault.

He appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Reynolds was charged with common assault against Samuel Nicholas, a 41-year-old mechanic from Double Head Cabbage.

The incident allegedly occurred on October 14, 2023, at the Eruption Night Club Compound. Nicholas reported to Ladyville Police Station that Reynolds, driving a white Ford Escape, blocked traffic and instigated an argument. During the altercation, Reynolds allegedly punched Nicholas and threatened him with what appeared to be a rifle.

Reynolds pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday. Bail was granted at $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount, which Reynolds met. He was also ordered not to leave the country without court permission and not to contact or interfere with Nicholas or any prosecution witnesses.

Reynolds’ next court appearance is scheduled for June 25, 2024.

The police had initiated an investigation, obtaining Nicholas’ statement and attempting to review security footage from Eruption Night Club. However, the footage had been deleted after 48 hours.

Reynolds was informed of the charges against him on April 15, 2024, at Ladyville Police Station and subsequently charged. He was released on police bail to appear in court today.
